About the BSSC Art Wall Exhibit
The Black Student Success Centre (BSSC) invites you to experience the 3rd Annual BSSC Art Wall Exhibit, a signature Black History Month initiative that transforms the BSSC Communal Lounge into a gallery celebrating Black artistry, identity, and resilience.
This year’s theme, “The Legacy: Us & Now,” invites us to reflect on our shared history while celebrating and shaping our own the present and future. What does it mean to build upon a legacy? How do we honor the contributions of those who have and continue to pave the way? How do we use the tools passed down to us to create new stories? How do we define our own impact today? These questions are at the heart of this year’s exhibit, where student artists reflect on Black history, culture, and empowerment through diverse artistic expressions—including painting, photography, poetry, and digital art. This exhibit captures the essence of Black identity, community, and vision for the future.
Event Purpose & Highlights
This year’s exhibit is more than a display of artistic talent—it is an immersive experience that brings Black creativity to life. In addition to the powerful artwork, attendees will have the opportunity to witness live performances, hear directly from the artists, and experience an exclusive piece by our 2025 curator, Koko Sanginga.
- Celebrate Black Creativity – Immerse yourself in a carefully curated exhibit that honors Black artistry and storytelling.
- Engage with Black Student Artists – Gain insight into the creative process and the meaning behind each piece.
- Connect with Community – Join meaningful conversations with fellow students, faculty, and community members in a space dedicated to Black expression.
- Honoring Past & Present Contributions – This year’s exhibit not only showcases new student artwork but also recognizes the curators and artists who have shaped this initiative over the years.
Meet Our 2025 Student Curator: Koko Sanginga
We are excited to introduce Koko Sanginga as the curator of this year’s exhibit. A third-year Sociology and Political Science student, Koko is passionate about art, social justice, and amplifying Black voices through creative expression. With a keen understanding of cultural narratives, Koko has designed this year’s Art Wall to be a reflection of identity, resilience, and the ever-evolving story of Black excellence.
Honoring Past Curators
This initiative stands on the foundation built by our past curators:
- Reyanne Morgan (2024): Recognized for her dedication in creating a vibrant and impactful Art Wall.
- Angelo Grant (2022): Celebrated for establishing the groundwork for this beloved initiative.
Their artistic leadership has shaped the legacy of the BSSC Art Wall, inspiring future generations of Black student artists at McMaster.
Be Part of the Experience

This is your chance to celebrate Black creativity, engage with the artists, and connect with others in a space dedicated to Black expression and storytelling.
Additionally, all submissions from this year’s exhibit will be featured in our annual Art Wall YouTube video, ensuring that every artist’s work is showcased and honored beyond the event.
