About the Event

Join Black X-Scape for ‘Letters & Lyrics,’ an open mic night celebrating creativity, connection, and community. This event provides a space to explore themes of personal growth, healing, and empowerment through poetry, music, guided writing, and storytelling, inspired by this year’s Black History Month theme, Afrofuturism.

The event will be guided by Siobhan Stewart (former MSU President and McMaster Alum) and Susanne Dorder (SWC Counsellor), offering a welcoming environment to share your voice, story, or simply connect with the community.

Event Highlights

  • Expressive writing and reflection activities to provide time for artistic expression (no previous experience required)
  • Space to reflect on themes of personal growth, healing and connection
  • Open mic – time to share or perform new and previous pieces (not required!)
  • Snacks, writing supplies and community

About Black X-Scape

The student-led Black X-Scape offers space for Black students to have safe and liberating discussions about mental health and healing. Black students can freely express themselves, and have conversations on the nuances of mental health, wellness, stigma, and more. Sharing resources, support, coping skills, and collective healing, in addition to exploring and expanding on meaningful Blackness.
