Gear Up 4 Mac: Week in Residence – Participant Application

About the Event

The BSSC is proud to announce the inaugural annual “Gear Up 4 Mac: Week in Residence” program. This initiative is designed to support incoming Black first-year students at McMaster University, offering a week-long, overnight residential experience to help transition into university life.

Program Highlights:

  • Comprehensive introduction to university life
  • Academic and social success strategies
  • Connection building with Black undergraduates
  • Campus and Hamilton area familiarization
  • Exploration of campus resources
  • Interaction with BSSC staff and Black Student Clubs

Cost: Free (includes accommodations, three daily meals, and transportation for excursions)

Program Benefits

Participants will:

  • Successfully transition into McMaster University
  • Develop effective university-level writing skills
  • Connect one-on-one with peers in their program
  • Learn the layout of McMaster Campus and Hamilton area
  • Gain knowledge of on-campus resources
  • Familiarize with BSSC staff and Black Student Clubs

Admission Requirements

To be eligible, participants must:

  1. Complete and submit all questions in the application form.
  2. Be a Black-identified student aged 17-18.
  3. Be a recent 2024 high school graduate transitioning to post-secondary education in Fall 2024.
  4. Have accepted and fulfilled conditions of their offer to McMaster.
  5. Commit to the full program duration from July 21 to July 26, 2024 (6 days, 5 nights).
