Black Student Wellness

The BSSC offers one-on-one mental health counselling and culturally situated group wellness supports to Black students, offering a comprehensive range of psychoeducational services that acknowledge the multiplicity of Black intersectional identities.

Our experienced Black Student Wellness Counsellor offers a warm and supportive space throughout your undergraduate and graduate journey. Through a first consultation appointment, they will explore your needs and together, you can find a direction forward that feels authentic and fulfilling to you.

 

Meet our Black Wellness Counsellor, Foluke Akinboyo

 

Foluke is committed to supporting the mental health and overall success of Black-identifying students at McMaster University. Her work centers on fostering holistic wellbeing, dismantling the stigma surrounding mental health, and encouraging students to engage with available wellness resources across campus. Her therapeutic approach combines cultural humility, curiosity, and sensitivity, including evidence-based practices such as Unified Protocol (CBT, DBT, ACT), trauma-informed care, and mindfulness-based interventions. She looks forward to connecting with you and supporting your personal journey.
